Instant Places Workshop involved locally gathered audio and video from microphones made in the workshops'.
The project was an evolving portrait or journal that was specific to the conditions surrounding it, while allowing indeterminate and personal inputs a feature within the outcome presented here.
These recordings include not less than 9 different recordings/ media but all using microphones made during the workshop by participants mixed live in a performance with the video by Kavanaugh + Birse.
imbued with a variety of musical fragments, found sounds and a few deliberately picked samples - these are the only sound sources used in this collection of semi-improvised soundscapes. All pieces were recorded in Newcastle, NSW, Australia in the mid naughties.
Although the main focus of most compositions is on texture and interweaving ambiences, each track also contains a narrative that emerges from the facilitators bouncing off each other during the live-presentation of the variously recorded media.
